About Us

The Great Ormond Street Branch was the very first branch of CLAPA to be set up in the UK in 1979.

We have a special interest in helping support innovative treatments and research. Our committee is known for its strong professional links. These include medical and nursing professionals as well as speech and language therapists. Dr Michael Mars, Consultant Orthodontist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, was one of the founders of CLAPA and remains on our committee. Our lay members are often parents of children affected by cleft lip or palate.

Over the years the role of CLAPA-GOS has changed as it has grown and developed. CLAPA serves the branches by acting as a central information store and co-ordinator of activities around the country. Branches, such as CLAPA-GOS, focus on supporting parents and maintaining the information flow between specialists and parents. For example, we organise the annual “Meet Your Team Day”.

Our committee usually meets every two months at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The Chair, Maura Doran, is always happy to welcome new members.
